Our day started with breakfast at the hotel. It was different than what we’re used to, for example, garlic rice and dangit (fried fish carcasses). Meanwhile, those who were not so adventurous enjoyed the best omelet on Earth. After breakfast, we walked to a mall close to the hotel in order to exchange currency and shop around. Some bought souvenirs, while others had smoothies from a street stand. Like the omelets, the smoothies were the best on Earth. After heading back to the hotel, we hopped on a bus to Quest Fellowship Church.
When we arrived, we were greeted by many of the church volunteers and workers. We had lunch in the Waumba Land room, which was followed by our cultural orientation provided by Ate Ella. Dos and don’ts were explained along with cultural differences between America and The Philippines.
After lunch, we went into the InsideOut room where there were already so many Filipinos waiting…an hour and a half early! We got to talk to them, take tons of selfies, and dance A LOT. There were magic tricks, dance circles, and a whole bunch of sweat! We eventually started the service with a great round of the hokey pokey and some fun games. After that, we got straight into some amazing worship. The next part was one of the most special parts of the night: four students got to share their testimonies, two of them Filipino and two of our very own, Brynne and Garrett. We sang some more songs to close and then had pizza with all of the students for dinner, where many more selfies were taken!
We left Quest and came back to the hotel where we had our first large group together. We all shared our favorite parts of the day. It was so amazing to see the ways God is already speaking through these people and changing lives! Everyone is being brought out of their comfort zones in the most wonderful ways and we are so eager to continue that the rest of the week!
