On July 9th, we had our annual night of worship and send off for our Philippines team. This was a night where family and friends joined the team in prayer and preparation as we began our incredible journey to the Philippines. The night began with our very own Mary-Madden leading us in a time of prayer. We were then led in worship by the incredible Shane Cole, Eb Cole and Alex Aghoian. This time allowed us to slow down and be surrounded by what God was doing in the room.
When our leader Mike took the stage, he casted vision of why we do short term missions. He encouraged us with this: “we are not the first team to go and we are not the last team to go, but we are the next team to go.” He also reminded us that Jesus sent his disciples out on mission as one of his final commands: Matthew 28:19-20 “19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mike then welcomed the former leader of the trip, Chad Ward, on to stage. Chad beautifully led us in a time of communion, encouraging us that on this trip, and even here stateside, we will face temptations, but when we face those temptations to remember Jesus and all that he’s done for us. We then were able to pray as small groups.
Finally, Mike led us in a commissioning ceremony, which is a 2000 year old tradition that involves the body of Christ praying over and sending out the missionaries. This was a moment for family and friends to lay hands on their student and pray over them as they were sent off on a truly life changing journey.
This will be the main source of communications for our trip. Parents and friends feel free to share. Comment on the posts and we will gladly share your words of encouragement with your students.
